Doctors

Our GP’s have a diverse range of interests; together they treat all common medical conditions and refer patients on to specialists for further treatment and examination.

DR DANIEL NEWBERY

Dr Newbery has been a partner at Thornbrook Surgery for the last 7 years. He enjoys all aspects of general practice with a particular interest in mental health. He enjoys keeping active and spending time with his young family while not in work. Usual working days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

DR RICHARD EDWARDS

Dr Edwards is a partner and has been a member of the team at Thornbrook since 2004. He has a special interest in dermatology and also works in the dermatology clinics with 3VH. Usual working days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

DR NATALIE FIELDING

Dr Natalie Fielding is a partner and has been at Thornbrook since finishing her GP training in 2017. She has an interest in end of life care and is the end of life lead for the practice. She is also the child and adult safeguarding lead. While not at work she can be found roaming the beautiful Peak District Park with her family. Usual working days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

DR HONOR CONDLIFFE

Dr Condliffe has been a member of the Thornbrook team since 2006, having previously visited as a medical student from London. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and the reward of knowing families across generations. She also works as a GP appraiser. When not at work she enjoys hill running in the Peaks. Usual working days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

DR OLIVER MCCLOSKEY

Dr McCloskey joined the practice in 2022 after working as a GP registrar at Thornbrook. He enjoys all aspects of general practice. When not at work he can sometimes be found out walking in the hills or swimming. Usual Working Days; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

DR HUW MCCANDLESS

Dr McCandless has been a GP for 7 years, He has worked in Salford, Australia (Melbourne), Sale, 111 CV19 helpline before moving to the Peak District as he loved the area. He has joined the team in 2022 and wants to be a positive and committed salaried GP for patients in Chapel and surrounding areas. Usual Working Days; Tuesday & Thursday

Regular Locums

DR DEBBIE AUSTIN

Dr Austin has worked at Thornbrook since 1999, initally as a Partner but now a regular locum whilst also working for the clinical commissioning group in Derbyshire as clinical lead for High Peak Place Alliance. She has special interests in gynaecology, family planning and commissioning health services in 'Joined up Care Derbyshire'. Usual working days: Tuesday, Wednesday.

Registrars

At Thornbrook Surgery, we pride ourselves on the training opportunities we provide for future Doctors. We usually have registrar’s working with us who are qualified doctors carrying out further training under the supervision of a senior GP. We have received multiple certificates of excellence for our high teaching standards. Dr Daud Muhammad.

Nurse Practitioners

Our Nurse Practitioners triage all patients who request an appointment and allocate them to the appropriate clinician. NP’s work independently and generally consult patients with on the day requests and are also able to prescribe medicines.

DENISE BARRATT

Denise came to us three years ago and has a background in Accident & Emergency. She is local to the area and can also be found working at the Out of Hours unit in New Mills. Usual working days: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.

Community Matron

TRISH LONGDEN

Trish joined Thornbrook in 2004 after working as a Practice Nurse at other local surgeries. She specialises in diabetes, coronary heart disease and runs the travel clinics. Trish retired from being practice nurse in November however is continuing to be our Practice Community Matron and cares for patients in the community with complex care needs. Usual working days: Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Nurses

Our practice nurses carry out various tasks to help patients with their long term health care needs, including: blood tests, cervical smear tests, treating wounds, administering vaccinations and reviewing long term conditions.

TRACEY HUNT

Tracey qualified as a registered nurse in 2009 from the University of Derby with a bachelor of science in nursing. She started her career in East Cheshire NHS trust on the medical assessment unit but decided primary care was where she wanted to be. In 2013 she started work as a practice nurse and has worked in other GP practices before joining the Thornbrook team in 2018. Tracy now leads our nursing team and some of her skills include, baby immunisations, contraception, cervical screening, asthma, wound care, learning disability reviews, long term conditions, ear care and anti coagulation. Usual working days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.

Specialist Nurses

KAREN HUGHES

Karen is our respiratory nurse specialist and works one day a fortnight carrying out specialist clinics for patients with long term respiratory conditions. She spends the rest of her time working in respiratory clinics in the Manchester area and other GP surgeries. Usual working days: alternate Thursdays.

Healthcare Assistants

Our HCA’s work closely with our Practice Nurses and help run our blood clinics, as well as taking blood pressures, carrying out ECGs and minor wound care.

DEBBIE SKAE-BRADBURN

Debbie has worked at Thornbrook for over 12 years having previously worked as a HCA in hospitals. She also has a diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support. Usual working days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

GABBY BARTLETT

Gabby completed her HCA training with us at Thornbrook Surgery after many years working in pharmacies. She works along side Debbie as the practice HCA's. Usual working days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.

Practice Management

SAMANTHA TODD

Practice Manager

Samantha is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care. GILL FRANCIS

Business Manager

Gill is involved in managing all business aspects of the practice and the organisation's finances. Gill is in the practice every Thursday.

Kate alongside Amy assists the practice Manager and manages the administration team which includes a team of secretaries, workflow, IT and QOF adminstrators.

Reception

Our support team provide an important link for patients of the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Clinical Pharmacist

Mr Riaz Ahmed is a clinical pharmacist working for High Peak PCN and is based primarily at Thornbrook Surgery. He gained his expertise working in community pharmacy before he made the decision to move sector to work for the High peak PCN in 2020. He has a special interest in supporting patients with Long Term Conditions, as well as Deprescribing of medicines. He feels privileged to bring his medicines expertise to benefit patients at Thornbrook surgery. There is nothing Riaz enjoys more than spending time keeping active with his young family in the High Peak.

District Nurses

District nurses visit housebound patients at home. For patients who are mobile, they also provide a range of services at Chapel Health Centre. Please contact the district nurses on 01298 815116.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Midwife

Nichole Prentice is a member of the High Peak Maternity Team and is the midwife for patients registered at Thornbrook Surgery. She works here every Tuesday. If you have returned your form and are awaiting your first appointment, please wait for Nichole to contact you.

Physiotherapist

Stephen Davidson is the mobile physiotherapist at Chapel he is a Mobile Physio and works in the community.
